Glossary
Plain-English definitions for any word in these docs you don't recognize.
Airbox address (inbox)
Your private email address from Airbox, like c4f8xxxx@airbox.fyi. You forward or BCC mail here to get an AI reply back. You can have more than one, and you can rotate any of them if it ever leaks.
API key
A private password that lets Airbox use your AI account on your behalf. You create it on the AI provider's website (Claude, OpenAI, Google, etc.), paste it into Airbox once, and we keep it encrypted. It is not the same as your normal website login.
BCC vs. forward
Two ways to get an email to Airbox. Forward sends an email you already received on to your Airbox address. BCC (blind carbon copy) adds your Airbox address as a hidden recipient while you write a new email, so a copy is processed without the other recipients seeing it. Both work.
Connection
A saved link between Airbox and one of your AI providers or tools — your Claude key, your ChatGPT key, your Notion account. You set these up once in the dashboard under Connections.
Instruction vs. content
Your instruction is what you want done (“summarize this”) — Airbox reads it from a small trusted surface: the subject, the first body line with command symbols, or a (* … *) block at the top. The content is the rest of the email, which the AI reads as information but never as a command. Keeping these apart is what makes Airbox safe to point at real mail.
LLM / model
The AI that actually does the work. “LLM” (large language model) is the technical name; a model is a specific version, like Claude Opus or GPT-4. ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini are all LLMs. You choose which one Airbox uses.
MCP
A standard way for AI to connect to outside tools and data (the Model Context Protocol). In plain terms: it lets your AI do things like create a Notion page or look something up, not just write text back. Optional — you only need it if you connect a tool.
Provider
The company whose AI you're using — Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI (ChatGPT), Google (Gemini), and so on. You bring your own provider account; Airbox routes your email to it.
Credits / tokens
Credits are Airbox's unit for how much processing you've used on your plan. Tokens are how AI providers measure text (roughly, a few characters each) — that's what your provider bills you for separately. See the FAQ on costs.
Command syntax
The optional shorthand you can put on the trusted surface (subject, first body line, or (* … *) block) to ask for something specific — like @claude #summarize. You never have to use it; a plain forward works on its own. See Syntax.
