ChatGPT
Use ChatGPT models through Airbox — same OpenAI API connection, friendlier naming
Same Airbox connection as OpenAI — dashboard type openai
No coding required. If you have never used an API key before, follow the walkthrough below step by step. Developers can skip to Quick reference at the bottom
Part 1 — Get your API key
Billing: If you pay for ChatGPT Plus, that covers the chat website only. Airbox needs an API key from platform.openai.com with billing enabled — usage is metered per token
- Having ChatGPT Plus does not automatically give you an API key — follow these steps
- On a computer, go to platform.openai.com (OpenAI Platform — not the ChatGPT mobile app)
- Log in (often the same email you use for ChatGPT)
- If this is your first time using the API: open Settings → Billing and add a payment method
- Go to Settings → API keys
- Click "Create new secret key", name it "Airbox", and copy the key
- You will paste this key into Airbox once — treat it like a password
- For the full OpenAI/API-oriented walkthrough, see the OpenAI connection page
The key usually looks like: sk-… (from platform.openai.com, not from the ChatGPT app)
Part 2 — Add your connection in Airbox
- Sign in at the Airbox dashboard (airbox.fyi/dashboard)
- In the Connections card, click "+ LLM provider"
- When asked for the provider type, enter: openai
- When asked for your API key, paste the key you copied — it is encrypted and never shown again
- When asked for a model, press Enter to accept the default or type a model name (see this page's default)
- You should now see "openai (ChatGPT)" listed under Connections
- There is no separate chatgpt type — ChatGPT and OpenAI share one openai connection
Open the dashboard in a new tab if you want to follow along
Part 3 — Route your inbox
Your Airbox address does not use a connection until you attach one:
- In the Inboxes card, find your Airbox address
- Click the gear icon (⚙) on that address to open routing settings
- Under "AI, LLM or MCP provider", choose the connection you just added from the dropdown
- Leave "Email a reply back" checked if you want results in your inbox (recommended)
- Click "Save"
Try it — send an email
Subject: (* @chatgpt #summarize *) BCC your Airbox address on any email

Short checklist
- Get Platform API key at platform.openai.com

What you get
- Same connection as OpenAI — one key in the dashboard
- Use @chatgpt in email if that is how you think about the product
- API access can use models and settings beyond the ChatGPT chat UI
Notes
- Dashboard connection type is always openai
- Advanced: custom gateways and local models → Custom endpoints page
